 |  August 8, 2005 Edmundo Muniz, M.D., Ph.D. named President and CEO of Tigris Pharmaceuticals NEW YORK, August 8, 2005 - Tigris Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a development stage biopharmaceutical company, is pleased to announce the appointment of Edmundo Muniz, M.D., Ph.D. as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Muniz brings over a decade of drug development experience in oncology, cardiovascular and infectious disease. "I am extremely excited to join Tigris as its President and Chief Executive Officer and look forward to leading the successful development of our lead compound, A-007. This drug has the potential to address a major unmet medical need, and I believe that in Tigris we have a unique opportunity to change patients' lives and transform the treatment paradigm," said Dr. Muniz. Prior to joining Tigris, Dr. Muniz served as the Vice President for Lilly Research Laboratories Global Oncology Platform for Eli Lilly and Company. Dr. Muniz was responsible for Phase II, III and IV clinical trials for oncology compounds worldwide and for Global Marketing Pre-launch. Dr. Muniz led 9 major oncology submissions world-wide in 2003 and achieved 6 major oncology approvals in 2004, including US and EU indications for Gemzar® and Alimta®. Additionally, Dr. Muniz was instrumental in the creation of Lilly Oncology on Canvas: Expressions of a Woman's Cancer Journey, an international art exhibition that displays works from over 400 cancer survivors, family members, care providers and friends. Dr. Muniz joined Eli Lilly in 1995 as a Health Economics Research Physician and as an Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Indiana University. In 1997, he became director of Worldwide Pharmacovigilance and Epidemiology and member of the Medical and Regulatory Policy Committee. In 2000, Dr. Muniz was appointed as Executive Director in cardiovascular (CV) clinical development and two years later added to his responsibilities the CV Business Unit in the U.S. affiliate. He also served a member of the Pharmaceutical Operations Committee. Prior to joining Eli Lilly, Dr. Muniz completed a residency in Preventive Medicine and a Fellowship in Epidemic Intelligence with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. Dr. Muniz, a native of the Dominican Republic, received his M.D. from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. Later he earned a M.S. in Population Planning and a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and International Health from the University of Michigan.
